The government has made the use of the Aarogya Setu app mandatory for all public and private sector employees. While reporting another extension of the ongoing lockdown to accommodate the COVID-19 pandemic. It has as well made the app compulsory for people residing. In COVID- Containment Zones to authorize intensive surveillance and contact tracing in those areas. Authorities have been interrogating by the government to ensure total coverage of the app amid those residents. Aarogya Setu was initiate as a voluntary app by the government in early April. It has seen massive growth in usage thanks to its use being inspired by PM Narendra Modi and organizations such as CBSE.
Aarogya Setu must for all employees
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) utters in its directive, “Use of Aarogya Setu app shall make mandatory for all employees, both private and public. It shall be the responsibility of the head of the respective organizations to ensure 100% coverage of this app amid the employees.”
On Wednesday the government had built the use of the app compulsory for all the central government employees.
In the guideline, MHA as well raised that privates’ offices in Red Zone. Leaving aside the containment zones will permit to open with up to 33% strength. The remaining staff will have to work from home. It utters, “Private offices can operate with up to 33% strength as per requirement, with the remaining persons working from home.” It is also suggested that in Orange and Green Zones, 100% strength is permitted. Government offices in the Red Zone will permit to operate at full strength for senior officers of the level of deputy secretary. Above, with “remaining staff attending up to 33% as per enduement.”
Mandatory in Containment Zones
MHA guidelines as well declare that the authorities will make sure that the Aarogya Setu app used by everyone in Containment Zones. The guidelines study the local authorities shall ensure 100% coverage of the Aarogya Setu app amid the residents of the containment zone.
Aarogya Setu – introduced in early April. It is a contact tracing app using Bluetooth and GPS data of users for the purpose. The government has marked to take up intensive surveillance for contact tracing in Containment Zones. While it is not yet mandatory for everyone in India. Its use has been vigorously encouraging by government leaders and authorities.
Privacy concerns around Aarogya Setu
The app has elevated privacy concerns. It has been uttering by experts that the app necessary for more data. What is necessary and falls shorts of the standards set by contact tracing apps of other countries. The use of GPS-based location data is a major concern. NITI Aayog has secured the use of the app and uttered that GPS data assists in finding new hotspots. It declares that location data is not used by the app on an individual basis, yet on an aggregate basis.
